THE BORING (BUT IMPORTANT) DETAILS
What should I expect?
A Summer full of making new relationships, pointing students to Jesus, maturing alongside other interns, and going all in for sake of Jesus and students! You’ll have opportunities to lead, plan, and participate in all things student ministry. You’ll create friendships with students and families that will be life-changing. You’ll be intentionally discipled by the Student Pastor where you’ll learn how to study the Bible, and how to lead once back at college. And you’ll be cared for by the leadership of the church. And hopefully along the way, God will take any expectation you had coming in, and for your good and His glory, do something completely new and different!
What if I don’t live in Texas?
Great! We love bringing interns in from all over so that our students get different perspectives. We also love sharing the Texas vibes with new friends! Get ready to frequent lakes and ranches, try the best BBQ, rock a cowboy hat to a rodeo, enjoy the new Texas Ranger’s stadium, day trip to Austin for coffee and eats, and much more! Housing is provided, but we’d like you to bring your own car. We can talk through details of this once the whole team is set.
Do I get any time off?
Yes. We take off Friday and Saturday (Sunday is a workday). We also have off July 1-4. The expectation is that you’re all in for the summer, which means a lot of weekends and evenings will be spent with students. But we’ll work hard to give you at least one full day off every week. If you need to go home or take a family vacation, let us know as early as possible, and aim to make it in July, not June. All time off must be approved by the Student Pastor.
What does housing look like?
We’ll provide apartments in Arlington at no charge to you. Think off-campus college housing. You’ll most likely have your own room and bathroom, and share the apartment with another intern or two. We’ll provide kitchen-ware, basic furniture, and linens if needed. The apartments will have a kitchen, and any groceries will be on your own dime.
Can I take summer classes online during the internship?
Yes, but it will be tough. We recommend you only take one over the course of the summer. And if given the option, take the class in July, not June. It will be your responsibility to find time to complete the classwork outside of work.
